BONSAI WORKSTATION
This worktable serves to make practicing the art of bonsai a more accessible ritual. As bonsai trees are fostered over many years, a dedicated workspace makes sense.

Drawing design inspiration from the art of bonsai itself, the worktable is created around the idea of mechanically shaping nature to our will. As the branches of the bonsai are trained with wire, the table continues this industrial trend. The mechanics are exposed, highlighting the construction against the natural wood. The table itself is built out of layers of plywood, with a puzzle-like internal makeup connecting it to the precise and complex nature of the bonsai. The color palette incorporates ideas of balance and structure, utilizing a contrast between black surfaces with light edges. Green was used as an accent color to further cement that connection to nature.

The central table spins to allow access for all sides for trimming, with grooves on either side for storage of tools.
On the underside is a set of two “drawers”. These drawers store the various gauges of wire needed for training the bonsai, as well as things such as mesh for securing the substrate. These drawers swing out and up to provide better access to desired materials, the ligaments over-extend to "soft-lock" in place when raised.
