CARDIAC 1plus

With the current cultural shift, we can expect to see more people partaking in intense physical activity. Those over 40 are at extreme risk of serious cardiac events, specifically those returning to physical activity after a period of rest.

A stress test is an effective way of identifying risks before they become a problem, but current systems are complicated, messy, and clinic-bound. While stress tests aren't safe without medical supervision, a modified version can provide enough information to keep you in the loop.

The Cardiac 1 plus aims to create an all-encompassing heart health check that can be performed from the comfort of your own home with ease.

The device combines a blood pressure monitor with ECG equipment.

The user simply turns the device on and pairs it with the associated app.

Following that, the app provides instructions for wear and proper electrode placement, including a diagnostic test. Data is then collected during exercise.

The app allows for more information to be delivered to the
user digestably, compiling this data into understandable metrics with suggestions for the next steps.

This project posed some interesting challenges. This is the first soft-goods product I have gotten to really focus time on, while this was extremely exciting, it was also a steep learning curve.

Due to this being a wearable, extensive considerations were required in order to apply the required function ergonomically. Key details make sure the product functions comfortably. The main body has an upholstered casing to provide cushioning and support. The straps are lined with a non-slip mesh to ensure the device stays in place while in motion.

PROCESS

The development process for this product was anything but linear, I found myself at a nearly fully-developed product before needing to completely revisit the drawing board and fundamentally change how I was tackling the project.

Interviews, user testing, and prototyping were all invaluable to the development of the product.

Arguably the largest part of this project was the research. The knowledge base required meant going deep into the history, functionality, market, and more.
